Best Rated Movies of 2026

Moviegoers smiling as they watch a film in a theater

Which 2026 movies have audiences rated highest so far? Letterboxd’s October report is one way to answer that question. It ranks narrative features with a first national release between January 1 and September 30, 2026, and at least 25,000 member ratings by the end of September. Here are five films labeled 2026 on its list, as of October 6.

1. The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s telling of Odysseus’s journey home after the Trojan War sits at the top of the October list. It is the choice for viewers who want an epic, with mythological dangers and a homecoming at the center of the story. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus.

2. La Bola Negra

Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo direct this story of three men whose lives connect across different eras. Its place near the top of an audience list shows that the year’s conversation goes beyond the biggest studio releases. If you are looking for a character driven drama, this is one to look up.

3. Project Hail Mary

Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up far from Earth and has to piece together why he is there. The movie mixes a high stakes space mission with an unexpected friendship. It takes the third spot in Letterboxd’s October ranking.

4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Peter Parker is fighting crime in a world that no longer remembers him. That premise gives the superhero story a personal problem alongside its citywide threat. The movie appears sixth in the full October list, and fourth among the films highlighted here.

5. Jim Queen

This animated comedy follows Jim through a strange crisis in the Paris gay scene. Directors Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané bring a very different tone to this group of films. It is seventh in Letterboxd’s full list, and fifth among these selections.

How to read the ranking

This is an audience list, not a critics’ score or a claim that every viewer will agree. Two movies ahead of Spider-Man in the complete ranking carry a 2025 film year label, so this post sticks to films marked 2026. Ratings can change as more people watch, and a list based on at least 25,000 ratings naturally leaves out smaller releases with fewer votes.

If you only want one starting point, choose by mood: a grand adventure, an intimate drama, a space story, a superhero movie, or an unusual comedy. The ratings offer a shortlist, but the movie that works for you is still a matter of taste.
